Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Saturday's NHL slate begins at 2:00 PM Eastern time and features 11 games. Read on to see which players are primed to succeed and which ones should be avoided in what will be the second leg of a back-to-back for every team except the Kings.

GOALIE

Tuukka Rask, BOS vs. MON ($29): You'll rarely see Rask cheaper than this, as he's still trying to shake off a slow start. Considering he's posted a 2.36 or lower GAA in six of his last seven seasons, it's safe to assume Rask's 2.80 mark will soon start to plummet. That process could well begin here, as the Finnish netminder will be well rested after watching Jaroslav Halak beat the Penguins in overtime Friday.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Thomas Greiss, NYI vs. CAR ($36): Greiss was one of the league's worst goaltenders last season, with a 3.82 GAA and .892 save percentage. While he got off to a strong start this season, the German netminder has regressed over his past five starts, allowing 16 goals while holding only one opponent under three. Despite his recent struggles, Greiss is one of this slate's most expensive players at $36.

CENTER

Kevin Hayes, NYR vs. WAS ($17): Hayes has been terrific over his past 12 games, producing 11 points (three goals) and 35 shots. The career 12.7 shooter is converting at just 8.6 percent in this most recent stretch, so he could be posting even more impressive numbers with better luck. Perhaps that luck will turn around against a Capitals team that will likely be without two of its best players in Evgeny Kuznetsov (upper body) and T.J. Oshie (upper body).

CENTER TO AVOID

William Karlsson, VGK at SJ ($20): Many predicted regression after Karlsson shot 23.4 percent during last year's 43-goal campaign, and sure enough, he has just five goals in 24 games while holding a 10.9 percent shooting mark that's still the second-highest of his career. A large chunk of Karlsson's damage has come on the power play (seven out of 17 points), but San Jose's second-ranked, 89.7 percent penalty kill is likely to take power-play production out of the equation.

WINGS

Matt Luff, LA vs. VAN ($15): Luff earned a promotion to the NHL with dominant offensive numbers at the AHL level, posting 12 points in nine games. It took him a few games to find his stride playing with the big boys, but Luff has done so in the past two games, fashioning a goal in each and an assist in the latter to boot. Luff's offensive ability should be on full display against a Canucks club that's giving up the second-most goals per game in the league (3.60).

Zachary Sanford, STL vs. WPG ($12): Interim coach Craig Berube recently moved Sanford to the first line with Ryan O'Reilly and Vladimir Tarasenko, putting the talented youngster in one of the league's most fantasy-friendly situations. Sanford's price has yet to adjust to the expected bump in minutes and offensive opportunities, creating a nice buy-low window. At just $12, he's worth scooping up against any opponent, especially after lighting the lamp Friday.

WINGS TO AVOID

Chris Kreider, NYR vs. WAS ($26): While Kreider's been hot lately, his price has become so high that it's tough to justify picking him over similarly valued alternatives. His 19.4 shooting percentage is higher than any of Kreider's previous single-season marks, and sustaining his current 43-goal, 71-point pace will be difficult for a player who has never previously eclipsed 28 goals or 53 points.

Sam Reinhart, BUF at DET ($17): Few forwards are as reliant on the power play as Reinhart, who has scored 27 of his 67 points since the start of last season with the extra man. It's thus not advisable to deploy him against a team with a proficient penalty kill such as Detroit -- the Red Wings allow only a 17.7-percent success rate on the power play, good for fifth-lowest in the NHL.

DEFENSEMEN

Morgan Rielly, TOR vs. PHI ($27): Reilly's hit a speed bump for the first time this season with negative fantasy points in each of the past two games, but he gets a great opportunity to get back on track against a vulnerable Flyers defense. Philadelphia lets up the fourth-most goals per game (3.45) and has the league's second-most generous penalty kill at 69.7 percent. Reilly's nine goals and 26 points are both good for second among defensemen while his 10 power-play points are tied for fourth, so he has all the tools needed to capitalize on this favorable matchup.

Keith Yandle, FLA vs. CHI ($21): One of the few blueliners besting Rielly in power-play production is Yandle, whose 12 points with the extra man have him tied with Washington's John Carlson for the league lead at the position. Yandle gets a golden opportunity to pad that total here against a Blackhawks team that sports the league's eighth-worst penalty kill at 75.4 percent.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI at TOR ($20): Gostisbehere has been held without a point in five of the past six games, while his rating is a dreadful minus-10 this season. A Maple Leafs team that's outscoring the average opponent 3.39 to 2.70 poses a major threat to Gostisbehere's rating and will continue to make scoring difficult for him.

Jamie Oleksiak, PIT vs. CLS ($18): Oleksiak's ice time is heading south in a hurry, as he's averaging just 15:02 in the past seven games. That's peanuts for a defenseman, and since it doesn't include power-play time alongside Pittsburgh's elite forwards, Oleksiak's role simply isn't large enough to make him worth $18.
