DraftKings NHL: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Jaroslav Halak, BOS at COL ($7,500): Halak has one last chance to prove he can be the Bruins' starter before Tuukka Rask returns; the Avs will be a tough matchup, but it's certainly doable. Halak has allowed just one goal in three of his past four games and carries a .945 save percentage into Colorado, where the Avs have lost two of their last three home games. Marc-Andre Fleury ($7,700) is also a fair option but a little more pricey.

CENTER

Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. WAS ($6,900): Scheifele had consecutive three-point games in wins against the Devils and Avalanche, and he gets the ultimate test against the Caps. Sometimes it's wiser to pick a lesser player playing against a weaker team, but Scheifele is an elite center and Braden Holtby is having another subpar regular season. In fact, the Caps defense hasn't looked very good all season and rank 24th in goals against.

Ryan O'Reilly, STL at CHI ($6,600): O'Reilly will be looking to extend his point streak to 11 games against the Blackhawks, whose losing streak is now at eight games and now arguably the worst team in the Western Conference. Neither Corey Crawford nor Cam Ward are very dependable right now, and O'Reilly may feast against a penalty kill that ranks 26th in the league. The crazy thing is that neither Vladimir Tarasenko or Jaden Schwartz are really going right now.

WING

Blake Wheeler, WPG vs. WAS ($6,800): Maybe it's because they're defending Cup champs, but there's still this aura around the Caps that makes them seem more invincible than their 8-6-3 record would suggest. It feels expensive to line stack Wheeler and Scheifele, but the evidence indicates otherwise; Wheeler has scored 12 points in his last four games and once again dominating on the power play with Patrik Laine.

Jonathan Marchessault, VGK vs. ANA ($6,200): He's opportunistic and shifty, but also a high-volume shooter, which makes him an ideal matchup against a team that has slow defensemen and a propensity to allow a ton of shots. John Gibson's the only thing standing between Marchessault and a potentially big night. Offense has been a sore spot for the Knights, but Marchessault's scoring has not suffered this season.

Pontus Aberg, ANA at VGK ($4,500): He's riding shotgun on the top line with Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell, and you can't ask for a better opportunity than that for a scorer. The results haven't always been there but his five goals are already a career high, and no one other than maybe Ondrej Kase is in danger of taking Aberg's job because the Ducks are so thin up front. Aberg is a potential value play.

DEFENSE

Dustin Byfuglien, WPG vs. WAS ($5,900): He's on a six-game point streak with 13 points in 14 games on the season, over half of which have come on the power play. Good thing the Caps penalty killing ranks 29th in the league and the Jets are red-hot with seven power play goals and a 50 percent conversion rate in their past five games.

Vince Dunn, STL at CHI ($5,100):Alex Pietrangelo gets a little more power play time but the difference can be negligible because Dunn potentially has the higher offensive ceiling. With seven points and 30 shots in 13 games Dunn is already having a solid season, but it's his consistency that makes him a low-floor pick. Dunn has registered at least a shot on goal in every single game this season.
