FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

GOALIE

John Gibson, ANA vs. ARI ($8,300): Gibson is, in all honesty, in the running for the title of best goalie in the NHL. Over the last three seasons he has never had a save percentage lower than .920. The Coyotes only scored 2.51 goals per game last year, and Gibson already blanked them this season.

CENTER

Sean Couturier, PHI at OTT ($6,900): Couturier was moved to the role of top-line center for the Flyers last year, and it paid off big time. The 25-year-old managed 31 goals and 76 points, thanks in part to getting real power-play time (3:14 per game) in his career. Even though the Flyers are on the second night of a back-to-back, this is still a matchup to get excited about. The Senators had a 3.46 GAA last year, second worst in the NHL.

Adam Henrique, ANA vs. ARI ($5,200): With Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler both hurt, Henrique is currently the top center for the Ducks. That means more minutes, and more power-play time, which raises his fantasy potential. Though Antti Raanta has been impressive as a Coyote, the team allowed 33.2 shots on net per game on the road last year, which should mean opportunity for Henrique.

WING

T.J. Oshie, WAS vs. VGK ($6,200): This isn't about Oshie's five points in two games, although that's certainly not a bad sign. Though he had his worst season as a Capital last year, he still had 47 points in 74 games, including 18 on the power play. On the road last season, the Golden Knights ranked 16th on the penalty kill. Additionally, Marc-Andre Fleury has a 3.92 GAA and .841 save percentage, and though it's a small sample size, with only three games on the docket there are some concessions you need to make.

Travis Konecny, PHI at OTT ($5,200): Konecny had a breakout of his own last year, tallying 24 goals and 23 assists. Through that, he seems to have earned a spot on Philly's top line, and he's played 2:03 per game on the power play to start the season. In addition to having a 3.46 GAA last year, the Senators had an .895 save percentage, and they've brought back both of their goalies in Craig Anderson and Mike Condon.

Ryan Dzingel, OTT vs. PHI ($4,800): Dzingel scored an under-the-radar 23 goals last year, and he had eight points on the power play as well. He now plays on Ottawa's second line, and he has a point in all three of its games thus far. The Flyers, as previously noted, are on the road for the second night of a back-to-back. Due to goalie injuries, Calvin Pickard may be in net for Philly in this game. He hasn't played regularly in the NHL since the 2016-17 season, and he had a .904 save percentage that year.

DEFENSE

Ivan Provorov, PHI at OTT ($5,000): The Flyers' defense is more than just Shayne Gostisbehere. Last season, Provorov scored 17 goals on 203 shots. He's only 21, and he averaged more than 24 minutes per game last season. A bunch of minutes against a team that had a 3.46 GAA and allowed 33.1 shots on net per contest last year could yield plenty of fantasy points out of Provorov.

Thomas Chabot, OTT vs. PHI ($4,300): No, I don't think Chabot will keep up his current pace, as he has five points in three games to start the year. However, Erik Karlsson is gone, so an opportunity has opened. On that front, the 21-year-old has averaged 21:51 per game in ice time, and he's played 2:34 per contest with the extra man. The Flyers ranked 29th on the penalty kill last year, so that power-play time could pay off.
