DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Scott Darling, CAR at EDM ($7,200): Through his past two outings, Darling has looked sharp for the Canes with a .917 save percentage and 1.99 GAA. The Oilers didn't project to be a soft matchup, but Leon Draisaitl's absence has Edmonton searching for answers offensively. Additionally, the Hurricanes have the personnel to keep Connor McDavid in check (hopefully). At this salary, Darling doesn't necessarily need the win bonus to return value, either.

CENTER

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS at TOR ($6,300): Sporting a four-game point streak with three multi-point showings during that span, Backstrom is currently underpriced and offers a high-floor, high-ceiling combo. The Maple Leafs have allowed 3.8 goals per game and own a 79.2 penalty-kill percentage. The Swedish center is a strong lean.

Vadim Shipachyov, LAS vs. BUF ($3,700): Back from his mismanaged exile to the minors, Shipachyov found the back of the net in his NHL debut on Saturday. He played just 10:26 against Boston, but the 30-year-old center should see an increased role moving forward. He should quickly solidify himself as the Golden Knight's top player, so there's value in this discounted salary.

WING

Jamie Benn, DAL vs. ARI ($7,300): The Coyotes have allowed the most goals per game in the league (4.4) and own a 76.5 penalty-kill percentage, so facing Dallas on the road sets up as a soft matchup for the Stars. Benn boasts a three-game point streak with two tallies and two helpers, and he's locked into a top offensive role. He should be viewed as a potential lineup lock.

Filip Forsberg, NAS vs. COL ($6,800): The Avalanche are off to a strong start this season, but Nashville at Bridgestone Arena checks out as a daunting setup for Colorado. Forsberg has recorded 44 goals and 80 points over 84 home games dating back to the 2015-16 campaign, too.

Sam Reinhart, BUF at VGK ($3,600): Projected to skate with Ryan O'Reilly and Zemgus Girgensons on a new-look second line, Reinhart stands out as a solid value play against the Golden Knights. The 21-year-old forward scored last time out and has seven shots through his past two games. Things are moving in the right direction for Reinhart.

DEFENSE

Justin Faulk, CAR at EDM ($5,200): The offensively gifted defenseman has been held off the scoresheet this season despite recording 14 shots through three games. Add Faulk's willingness to block shots, and the 25-year-old defenseman provides a solid fantasy floor. Call it a hunch that he marks the points column against the Oilers and gets off the schneid.

Derrick Pouliot, VAN at OTT ($2,700): The 2012 eighth overall pick collected an assist in his return to the NHL on Saturday, and Pouliot is expected to continue seeing power-play time and sheltered minutes moving forward. After flaming out with Pittsburgh, the change of scenery could be a wakeup call for the talented defenseman. Pouliot checks out as a low-priced flier with modest upside, but cap relief could also prove to be his best asset to a lineup.
