Cody Gribble
28-Year-Old Golfer
2018–19 Fantasy Outlook
Gribble had a horrendous season, missing the cut in 15-of-25 events with zero top-25s. A look at the previous season shows he wasn't much better - outside of winning the Sanderson Farms. Almost $800,000 of his roughly $1.3 million was earned in winning that opposite-field event, which is starting to look every bit as much of an outlier as Derek Ernst's infamous win in the 2013 Wells Fargo. It sure seems as if Gribble will need to head to the Tour Finals next season to regain his PGA Tour card for 2019-2020 -- that's if he even qualifies. He'd have to finish inside the top-200 in the FedEx Cup point standings in 2018-19, and he was 182nd in the 2017-18 season. (Gribble will always be able to play under Past Champions status, but that is near the bottom of the priority list.) Read Past Outlooks
Strong putting week at Trinity Forest
May 21, 2018
Gribble ended up in a tie for 32nd place at the AT&T Byron Nelson after he closed with a two-under 69 on Sunday.
The highlight of Gribble's week had to be his back-to-back eagles on Saturday at 14 and 15. He was able to pick up a solid finish this week despite struggling mightily with his ball striking, as Gribble ranked outside the top-60 in SG: Off-the-tee, SG: Approach, and SG: Tee-to-green. While many had a difficult time figuring out greens they've never seen before, Gribble was able to gain 4.3 strokes on the greens and also be fifth in putts per GIR. The Texan has now finished T34-T30-T32 in his last three starts, after missing the cut in his previous seven tournaments. Gribble will look for his first top-25 of the year at the Fort Worth Invitational.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
There is generally a Cody Gribble in every rookie class. He's the guy that comes out on fire in the fall, picks up a win and then disappears for the majority of the spring/summer schedule. Gribble recorded a top-10 the week prior to his win during the fall, but he failed to grab another top-10 the rest of the season. For the season, he only recorded four top-25s, and that's including the win and the top-10 in the fall. It's too early to tell if Gribble played above his talent when he won in the fall or if got complacent after winning, but when those are the two options, it doesn't make for a good salary cap situation.
Gribble tied for second early in the Tour season at the United Leasing & Finance Championship but struggled throughout, missing a whopping 15 cuts in 24 starts. But he tied for fifth at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship and with the playoffs shortened to three events it was good enough for a PGA Tour card, even after missing the cut in the first two playoff events. That's a huge red flag for fantasy players: a talented golfer who didn't play well and basically got a card on one good finish. Look for any sign of strong, consistent finishes before starting or playing him regularly.
