Dylan Frittelli

33-Year-Old Golfer
2024 Fantasy Outlook
After improving his play a year ago, Frittelli crashed back to Earth in 2022-23 as he made the cut in just 31.4 percent of his 35 tournaments played. It was the South African's worst season on Tour as the cuts-made percentage was the lowest of his career to go along with just three top-25 finishes while earning below $1,000,00 for the first time since becoming a Tour regular. Fritelli was one of the worst players on Tour in terms of SG: Off-the-Tee and SG: Approach to Green while ranking slightly above average in SG: Putting. Read Past Outlooks
Electing to play on DPWT
March 4, 2024
Frittelli has withdrawn from the field at the Puerto Rico Open to instead play the Jonsson Workwear Open this week, Rob Bolton of PGATour.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Frittelli having to play off of past champion's status on the PGA Tour in 2024, he instead had elected to take his talents to the DP World Tour and potentially earn a card back that way. Frittelli has made 10 starts already this season and it has been a mixed bag. He has missed four cuts, but also notched three top-20s, including a win at the Bahrain Championship. Frittelli will look for a good showing in his home country of South Africa this week.

Coming off his worst season on Tour in 2020-21, Frittelli bounced back by making 18-of-28 cuts but struggled to get into contention with a best finish of T-8 at the Valero Texas Open. At his best, he was a solid player from tee-to-green but lost strokes off-the-tee and on approach in 2021-22. Frittelli's accuracy off-the-tee has been a big detriment, and he appears to be an average at best Tour player moving forward.
Frittelli saved his only two top-5s of the season for a good time as both came in major championships. Outside of those results his season left much to be desired with a whopping 17 missed cuts. A lot of that inconsistency was the result of poor iron play, in which he ranked just 177th in strokes-gaind approach. Unless he shows vast improvement in that area, he'll have a difficult time making the playoffs again this season.
Frittelli followed up his 2018-19 season in which he picked up his first win with a respectable season with a better than 2:1 made/missed cut rate and three top-10s. It's a little concerning that his SG: Off-the-tee and SG: Approach numbers both dipped to around the Tour average, however. He's fully committed to playing on the PGA Tour over the European Tour as well. Not an exciting pick but a very safe one.
Entering the month of July, Frittelli was staring a return to the Korn Ferry Tour squarely in the face and then he won the John Deere Classic. That win was Frittelli's only top-10 of the season, but it was obviously enough to secure his privileges for the upcoming season and the one after as well. There are a couple issues when considering Frittelli this season. The first is, he didn't show much before or after his win at the John Deere. The second is, a lot of younger players don't perform the season after a big win. Whether it's because of a let down or some other reason, the seasons directly following that win is generally not a productive one.
Despite being a PGA Tour non-member throughout the 2017-18 season, Frittelli notched a pair of top-25s in 11 starts en route to six made cuts. The 28-year-old South African resides in the top-70 of the Official World Golf Ranking thanks to two wins on the European Tour in 2017, so he'll be someone to keep an eye on in 2019 if he ramps up his activity level on the PGA Tour. Frittelli earned his card via the Web.com Tour Finals, which included finishes of T9-T17 at the Albertsons Boise Open and Nationwide Children's Hospitals Championship.
