Getting four-year deal

March 13, 2019
Carpenter (shoulder) agreed Wednesday with the Falcons on a four-year, $21 million contract, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal includes $7 million fully guaranteed once he puts pen to paper and an additional $2.25 million guaranteed over the life of the contract. The structure of the contract makes it less onerous for the Falcons to move on from Carpenter after the 2019 season if the soon-to-be 30-year-old doesn't perform as well as the team hopes. Carpenter continues to work his way back from shoulder surgery but should be ready to go for the start of the upcoming campaign.

The 26-year-old is slated to start at right guard in his first season with the Jets.
A 2011 first-round pick, Carpenter has failed to live up to his promise. He struggled through injuries his first two years and was inconsistent last year. He started 10 games at left guard last season and likely will win the starting job this season, but he has a lot to prove. The Seahawks did not pick up his option for next year, which perhaps tells you what they think of him.
