Pouncey announced Friday that he will retire from the NFL, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The nine-time Pro Bowler will exit the NFL after an outstanding 11-year career following his selection with the 18th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Along with Maurkice, his twin brother, Chargers center Mike Pouncey, also announced that he would end his career. Look for Maurkice -- who started in all of his 134 career regular-season appearance -- to merit consideration for enshrinement at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

Although his career has been fraught with injuries, Pouncey was on the field for more snaps last season than any other since 2014. He has a firm grip on the starting center job entering this season.
Plagued by injuries throughout his career, including all of the 2015 season, Pouncey returns to his role as starting center.
After an injury-plagued 2013 season that limited him to just one game, Pouncey remained healthy last season, playing in all 16 games. He will return to anchor the Steelers’ offensive line in 2015.
A healthy Pouncey will man center and anchor the Steelers' offensive line this season.
Pouncey returns as the starting center for a Steelers' offensive line that underachieved in 2012, resulting in one of the league's worst rushing attacks (96.1 ypg).
Pouncey has suffered left high-ankle sprains each of the past two seasons, but the Steelers believe his operation should lessen the chances of a third. His health is key, as Pittsburgh was forced to use 10 different starting lineups in 2011.
Pouncey is the future center of the franchise. However, with Justin Hartwig still in the mix, Pouncey will likely start at guard in his rookie season.
