NFL All-Time Draft Steals

NFL All-Time Draft Steals

This article is part of our NFL Draft series.

As a corollary to our "Draft Busts" draft that we did for SiriusXM Fantasy last week, for Wednesday's show Joe Bartel, Chris Liss and I drafted all-time NFL Draft Steals for our Daily Draft series on the show. Each of us drafted 10 players, all drafted in the sixth round or later in their respective drafts. I intended that the players had to be drafted, and not signed as an undrafted free agent, but didn't make that clear to Liss and Joe ahead of time. So instead, we allowed for two undrafted free agents per team, though I didn't avail myself to that pool, having not listed them on my cheatsheet.

As per custom, we gave Joe the first choice on draft order because he's our guest, and he took the obvious first slot and took Tom Brady. Liss opted to take the wheel, granting me the second pick. For the second Daily Draft in a row, I landed Bart Starr again after also taking him in the All-Time Green Bay Packers draft. Liss demonstrated that he's really a shadow Cowboys fan by taking not one but two Dallas quarterbacks, Roger Staubach and Tony Romo. Bo Jackson qualifies on this list even though he originally was taken 1.1 by the Bucs, but never played a down for them. The Raiders threw a seventh-round pick at him a later draft, which worked out quite well.

It's amazing how many Hall of Famers were late picks or even undrafted. You can see the full list of our picks here - as always first by overall draft order, then by team.
