Shifting to tight end
February 19, 2019
Coach Tim Lester said Monday that Sanders would move from receiver to tight end for the 2019 season, Nick Buckley of the Battle Creek Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanders saw action in 21 games over his first two seasons at Western Michigan but barely had an impact in the passing game, accruing four receptions for 59 yards and no scores. At 6-foot-4, he has the frame to make a successful move to tight end, though he'll probably need to add bulk to his listed weight of 200 pounds. Sanders might have difficulty seeing much time at his new position as a junior after incoming senior Giovanni Ricci made the same switch last spring and returns as the top tight end after grabbing 35 passes for 392 yards and three touchdowns in 2018.
