Makes switch to defensive end
August 15, 2018
Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl confirmed Tuesday that Woods has been moved from running back to defensive end, Brandon Foster of the Casper Star-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Woods finished the 2017 campaign as Wyoming's leading rusher with 493 yards on 142 carries. That poor efficiency (3.4 yards per carry) along with the numbers the Cowboys have since added to their backfield apparently cast some doubts on Woods' ability to be a major contributor on offense, so the coaching staff elected to shift the sophomore over to the other side of the ball. Woods has prior experience on defense after opening fall camp at linebacker last season before switching over to offense, but since he's currently listed at just 218 pounds, he could struggle to make an impact as a pass rusher in 2018. After missing most of the spring with a shoulder injury, Woods should at least be healthy for the Aug. 25 opener at New Mexico State after receiving clearance for full contact last week.
