2016 Fantasy Outlook
Patton is a rangy threat on the outside that has made steady improvement through his first three seasons at Rutgers. At 6-3, 205, Patton is one of two big receivers on Rutgers’ roster that can cause problems for smaller corners, along with the 6-6 Carlton Agudosi. He’s coming off his best season as a Scarlet Knight, catching 34 of 56 targets (60.7%) for 432 yards and a score. Now that Leonte Carroo is gone to the NFL, Patton figures to have an uptick in touchdown opportunities after Carroo accounted for 10 of Rutgers’ 18 receiving touchdowns in 2015. There will be a scheme change at Rutgers this fall, however, and it will put an emphasis on the short, quick passing game. Patton’s at his best getting downfield, so the scheme could cause him to adjust his route tree. The other concern regarding Patton’s value is the unsettled quarterback situation as either Chris Laviano or TCU transfer Zach Allen will likely be under center. Laviano is capable of getting the ball downfield but he can be inaccurate and lacks pocket awareness while Allen is a good scheme fit for his mobility but he’s unproven as a passer. Regardless, Patton figures to have a lock on a starting spot in what should be an improved and more uptempo.
