White was a steal of a recruit for Wisconsin last year, as he showed some of the best balance and elusiveness nationwide among running backs. He’d be ranked much higher if it wasn’t for the presence of Montee Ball, but it looks like Ball is the player most likely to earn a feature back role with Wisconsin. Still, look for White to make a big impact, even if he doesn’t get as many touches. He ran for 1,052 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 6.74 yards per carry last year, so he can do damage even if he doesn't get a huge workload.
White is one of the nation's most talented backup runners, but with Montee Ball ahead of him his fantasy value will be very limited outside of Big Ten-only leagues. If Ball should miss any time, though, White's value would skyrocket and make him a dominant fantasy asset in all leagues. He averaged more than five yards per carry as a sophomore and actually had a dominant freshman season, running for 1,052 yards, averaging 6.7 yards per carry, and scoring 14 touchdowns on the ground.
The departure of Bret Bielema and his coaching staff would have been a concern for White's fantasy value in most scenarios, but luckily for White, Wisconsin replaced Bielema with former Utah State coach Gary Andersen, whose Aggie offenses routinely provided some of the nation's most productive running backs in recent years, most notably Kerwynn Williams and Robert Turbin. Despite outproducing both of them at various points, White has patiently waited behind Montee Ball and John Clay for his chance to start, totaling 2,571 yards and 32 touchdowns as an off-the-bench runner. Those are numbers a lot of starters wish they could post, so fireworks should be expected from White now that he won't be playing off the bench.
