The Redlbacks intend to place Saunders (undisclosed) on the retired list, Tim Baines of Postmedia reports.
ANALYSIS
The move comes after the 28-year-old receiver was involved in a scary automobile accident in which he sustained injuries that would have made it a challenge for him to gain full medical clearance ahead of the 2021 season. Rather than releasing Saunders, the Redblacks elected to place him on the retired list in order to retain his rights should he stage a successful comeback from the accident. Saunders' last CFL action came with the Tiger-Cats in 2018, when he recorded 45 receptions for 739 yards and two touchdowns in nine games before suffering a season-ending injury.
