2019 Tournament PreviewThe Golden Eagles were 23-4 and ranked 10th in the nation on Feb. 26, looking at a likely three seed in the Tournament. But they lost five of their last six, including a Big East tourney seminal upset, dropping them to the No. 5 seed in the West. If there's a player who can spark a tourney run, though, it's 5-11 junior Markus Howard (25.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.0 apg). The Big East Player of the Year, Howard led the conference in scoring, draining 40.8 percent of his 284 (14th in nation) 3-pointers. Marquette thrives on the perimeter, shooting 39.3 percent (9th nationally), with the Hauser brothers - 6-8 junior Sam (14.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg) and 6-9 freshman Joey (9.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg) - each hitting more than 40 percent. The Golden Eagles are balanced, ranking 23rd in KenPom's offensive efficiency and 35th in defensive efficiency, the latter thanks to allowing the 16th-lowest effective field-goal percentage in the nation. Momentum is fickle, and if Marquette regains its 3-point aim after shooting 34.8 percent in its five late-season losses, it will be a tough out.
