2019 Tournament PreviewThe eighth-place team out of the SEC, Florida needed to make some noise in the conference tournament to avoid sweating out Selection Sunday. The Gators did just that, cruising past Arkansas before taking down top-seeded LSU in the quarterfinals. Florida is light on explosiveness and star power but heavy on defensive fortitude (14th in KenPom's defensive efficiency). The Gators play a grind-it-out brand of basketball, ranking 346th in adjusted tempo. The style is effective in getting opponents out of their comfort zone in terms of pace and dictating the offense, but the Gators have fallen short against teams with superior talent. They won just four of their 16 Quadrant 1 matchups this season with five losses by double digits. Senior guard KeVaughn Allen (12.0 ppg) is the only Gator averaging double figures, though freshman guard Noah Locke (9.6 ppg) is the best perimeter threat, shooting 38.2 percent from downtown. Still, the Gators will be difficult for any team to contend with thanks to their ability to control the tempo and play lockdown defense.
