Limited run in title game
FVirginia
April 9, 2019
Salt was on the court for just four minutes in Monday's National Championship-winning game, recording one rebound and not attempting a single field goal.
ANALYSIS
While Salt was a key component that started 29 games during his senior year, his production fell off a cliff in the NCAA Tournament. He played just five minutes in the opening-round matchup against Gardner-Webb and was moved to the bench after that in favor of Mamadi Diakite. The lone exception was the Elite Eight showdown with Purdue, where Virginia needed the 6-10 forward's size to combat the post presence of 7-3 Matt Haarms. Salt finished that game with five points and eight rebounds across 34 minutes, but played just a combined 23 minutes in the other five postseason games. Despite his size, Salt isn't getting much attention at the professional level due to the evolving state of the game that emphasizes more versatile big men. That's not to take away from a productive career at Virginia, over which racked up 415 points and 439 rebounds.
