DFS College Basketball: Monday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Monday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Monday's slate contains three evening matchups, each from different conferences. Several key absences for Oklahoma and Miami could shake up player usage and create some opportunities for DFS value among the programs. In its featured contest, DraftKings is putting up a $3k top prize in the $15 Pull Up Jumper.

Targets

1. Umoja Gibson, G, Oklahoma ($5,100 DK, $5,900 FD)

Gibson has played a prominent role for the Sooners recently, and he figures to step up once again Monday with Austin Reaves and Alondes Williams both unavailable due to COVID-19 protocols. He entered the starting five Saturday for the first time since Dec. 6 because Reaves and Williams were unable to play, and he scored in double figures for a third consecutive game. Even if he would return to a bench role Monday, Gibson has had significant usage regardless of his starting status and could be a solid mid-tier play on the DFS slate. For those looking for a value play within Oklahoma's lineup, Jalen Hill ($4,500 DK, $4,500 FD) also took on a starting role and has had relatively consistent production since returning from the COVID-19 protocols.

2. Kameron McGusty, G, Miami ($6,700 DK, $6,800 FD)

McGusty was bothered by a hamstring issue earlier in the season, but he's rejoined the starting five for each of the past three games and has scored in double figures during each of those appearances while averaging 35 minutes per game during that time. Although Miami has the second-lowest expected total of any team on Monday's slate, McGusty's recent output has come in losses where the Hurricanes failed to top 60 points. If Isaiah Wong ($7,900 DK, $7,000 FD) is forced to miss Monday's game due to an ankle injury that he sustained Saturday, McGusty could take on a leading role for the team against the Blue Devils.

3. Jeremy Roach, G, Duke ($4,500 DK, $4,600 FD)

Roach started the calendar year strong as a member of Duke's starting five, averaging 14.3 points and 3.5 assists over the first four games of 2021. He was held scoreless in a pair of games later in the month that led to him coming off the bench in the most recent contest, but he still saw plenty of playing time in a depth role and scored 12 points against Clemson. Even if he comes off the bench once again Monday, he could see his fair share of playing time and could be a DFS value play, especially since the Blue Devils are favored to beat the Hurricanes by 11 points.

Fades

1. Isaiah Wong, G, Miami ($7,900 DK, $7,000 FD)

Wong has been dominant for the Hurricanes over the past five games, but he sprained his ankle late in Saturday's loss to Wake Forest. Coach Jim Larranaga sounded concerned about the injury after the game, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to suit up Monday against the Blue Devils. Even if he's able to play, he could be limited and presents a risky DFS play given his top-tier salary on both platforms. If Wong is unable to play, Kameron McGusty ($6,700 DK, $6,800 FD) should take on a leading role in Miami's backcourt, while Harlond Beverly ($5,700 DK, $5,900 FD) could also see increased run. Elijah Olaniyi ($5,800 DK, $4,700 FD) is a game-time decision Monday due to a shoulder injury that has kept him out for two games, but he could also factor into the Hurricanes' backcourt if he's able to return.

2. Isaiah Adams, G, Central Florida ($6,900 DK, $6,000 FD)

Adams was productive Saturday during the Knights' shootout against Wichita State on Saturday, but he's been far more inconsistent during low-scoring contests. While he'll likely remain in the starting five against Memphis, UCF has the lowest expected total of any team on Monday's DFS slate and could struggle to replicate his results from Saturday's contest. He's scored in double figures in just two of the last five games, and he's also been quite inconsistent on the boards this year. There are several more reliable options in Adams' DFS salary range on Monday's slate.

3. Nysier Brooks, F, Miami ($4,600 DK, $4,400 FD)

Brooks showed some flashes of production as a starter earlier in the season, but his results have declined significantly over the past three games. As a result, he came off the bench for the first time this year during Saturday's loss to Wake Forest. Although he played 20 minutes in his depth role, he was held scoreless while pulling in just three rebounds during the game. Deng Gak ($4,000 DK, $4,100 FD) entered the starting lineup in his place Saturday but wasn't much more productive. Although neither player carries a particularly high DFS salary Monday, the Hurricanes' options under the basket have been too inconsistent to garner much DFS consideration.
