DFS College Basketball: Friday Preview

A Big Ten match-up between Purdue and Michigan St. headlines today's five-game DraftKings slate, in which the featured $10 Big Jam contest is paying out $2k to the winner. FanDuel has the aforementioned game as a single game contest only tonight.

Targets

Trevion Williams, F, Purdue ($8,100 DK)

With the forward position lacking much depth today, I like paying up for Williams in a matchup with a Michigan St. team that has allowed at least 77 points in four of their five Big Ten games thus far. The Spartans will have their hands full defending the 6-10, 265 pound Williams, as they don't have a big body to defend him in the paint or on the glass. Williams is also as involved in his team's offense as nearly anyone in the country, taking over one-third of Purdue's shots while also posting at least seven rebounds in all 12 games.

Ryan Rollins, G, Toledo ($7,100 DK)

Neither team in the Toledo-Ohio game puts up much resistance defensively, so this is a good game to start with when building your lineups. Rollins has scored double-digits in all but one game (against Michigan) and has shown himself to be able to score in multiple ways, as an efficient three-point shooter that can also finish when driving to the basket. With two double-doubles in his last five games, Rollins provides a good floor with upside.

Mark Sears, G, Ohio ($6,000 DK)

It appears star guard Jason Preston is going to miss his fourth straight game and that opens things up for Sears. In Preston's absence, Sears has averaged over 35 minutes, 12 points and eight assists. He should have no problem living up to this price-tag as a result, especially against a Toledo team that is much better on the offensive side of the ball. Sears is a player to keep an eye on in the future as well, as head coach Jeff Boals has said he's earned a starting role even when Preston returns.

Fades

Carter Collins, G, Davidson ($7,400 DK)

With the lowest over/under on the slate today, the Dayton-Davidson game is one to be cautious of, due to both teams playing at a bottom-15 pace in all of the NCAA. This is a high salary to pay for Collins, who has seen decreased minutes in each of the last three games and is the third option offensively behind Kellan Grady and Hyunjung Lee. As much as I love his efficiency, his margin for error to live up to his salary is lower than I'd like.

Jordan Davis, G/F, Middle Tennessee ($6,600 DK)

Davis has really struggled in his first season with Middle Tennessee, connecting on a measly 29 percent of his field goals. It's hard to rely on that inefficiency at an above average salary, even at a reasonable volume. Davis is primarily a three-point specialist and FIU defends it well, having not allowed an opponent to make more than eight threes in a game thus far. Dontrell Shuler ($6,200 DK) is coming off a 19-point night against Ole Miss and provides more upside.

Sasha Stefanovic, G/F, Purdue ($6,000 DK)

With Williams taking up such a big role in the offense, it's hard to take any of the Purdue players unless you're getting a good value. Stefanovic has seen a diminished role in the offense and has been much less effective since the start of Big Ten play, averaging 9.2 points, down over 3.5 points compared to non-conference games. He'll most likely need to make several threes to live up to his salary.
