DFS College Basketball: Friday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Friday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

With only three top-25 teams in action today, we have a smaller than usual DFS College Basketball slate with just four games in the $12 DraftKings Heating Up contest and a 10k first prize. Over on FanDuel is the $7.77 All American, which features a top payout of $3k. On to the action!

Targets

Isaac Bonton, G, Washington St. ($7,900 DK, $7,300 FD)

Bonton gets a slight discount after a rare foul out in his last game caused him to play a season-low 25 minutes. In his prior four games he averaged over 35 minutes and he checks in with an eye-popping 35.6 percent usage rate – third highest of any player in the NCAA. Bonton also does a good job contributing in other categories with over five boards per game and multiple forced turnovers in each of his last three games. A matchup against a Montana St. team that has allowed 70+ in all three of their games shouldn't slow him down any.

Matt Mitchell, F, San Diego St. ($7,000 DK, $6,500 FD)

After a breakthrough junior season, Mitchell has stepped into the role as the clear go-to option offensively with the Aztecs losing several key pieces from last year's squad. As a result, Mitchell has seen increased minutes this season that has led to double-digit scoring in all five games. He also provides a good floor due to contributing in a variety of statistical categories. The only thing missing has been a breakthrough 20+ point game, and he'll have that opportunity tonight against a BYU team that likes to push the pace.

Taz Sherman, G, West Virginia ($4,300 DK, $4,200 FD)

Tonight's Iowa St./West Virginia match-up features the highest over/under on the slate as the Cyclones are an offensive minded team that has given up 70+ in their last three games, including 105 to Iowa last Friday. Sherman has taken a strong step forward in his sophomore season, shooting 50 percent from long-range and posting double-digit point totals in all but one game. He's been getting a consistent 20-25 minutes as the main option off the bench and is a good bet for 20 fantasy points at a cheap price.

Fades

Jordan Schakel, G/F, San Diego St. ($7,600 DK, $5,900 FD)

Schakel is coming off a career-high 25 point game that has him priced a whopping $1,700 higher on DraftKings than FanDuel. In that game he made five threes and shot 60 percent from the field, and he'll need to produce a similarly efficient output to justify spending this much. He checks in with just a 19.8 percent usage rate (third among the team's starters) and is averaging less than four boards per game and only has two assists on the season. You're better off spending your premium salary elsewhere.

Victor Bailey, G, Tennessee ($6,200 DK)

Bailey played 35 minutes in the season opener but has seen his minutes decrease in each game, all the way down to just 19 on Tuesday. The Oregon transfer has yet to post a 20 point fantasy night with his new team and ideally you'd like to get a player that has 30+ potential in this price range. It's also hard to figure that Bailey will see an uptick in minutes in a game against Tennessee Tech that isn't expected to close.

Efe Abogidi, F, Washington St. ($5,400 DK, $5,100 FD)

Abogidi has been a nice contributor as a freshman for the Cougars, but he still leaves much to be desired from a DFS standpoint. Although he isn't the most expensive player on the slate, he usually only plays about 20 minutes and has been in foul trouble that can limit his minutes even more. With only a 16.1 percent usage rate, he averages less than five field goal attempts a game and isn't a priority offensively.
