DFS College Basketball: Wednesday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Wednesday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Wednesdays typically feature many big games on the schedule, and today is no different, with an eight-game slate for the DraftKings $15 Pull Up Jumper, featuring a $20k first prize. Over on FanDuel is a four-game slate (after the cancellation of USC/SF) with a 7:00 p.m. EST start time for the $5.55 All American, which features a $5k first prize. Let's take a look at the implied totals on DraftKings and then jump in.

Targets

Harlond Beverly, G, Miami Fl. ($7,100 DK)

Beverly moved into the starting lineup for the Hurricanes' last two games after an ankle injury sidelined Chris Lykes. He's seen an uptick in minutes as a result, averaging 37 minutes over his last two games compared to just 22.5 over Miami's first two games. With Lykes still out tonight, that creates nice value on Beverly, who will be one of the primary options offensively. He also does a great job contributing in other statistical categories, with one double-double already this year and is averaging over five assists in his last three games.

Jordan Goldwire, G, Duke ($5,900 DK, $5,900 FD)

Goldwire has seen increased playing time in each of Duke's games this season, and it's always enticing getting a guy at an under $6k salary that is likely to see around 35 minutes. Although he's struggled a bit to start the season, he was an efficient shooter last year and will also get you production in rebounds, assists and steals. With Jalen Johnson sidelined with a foot injury, Jaemyn Brakefield ($4,400 DK, $4,500 FD) is a likely beneficiary and should outproduce his salary.

Gianni Hunt, G, Oregon St. ($4,700 DK)

Hunt missed the first two games of the season as he returned from injury but appeared to be back at full strength for the first time in the Beavers' most recent game -- getting his first start and playing 32 minutes. Today's matchup against UT-San Antonio is an under-the-radar game that features the highest over/under on the DFS slate due to the quick projected pace and minimal defense. It will be hard to find a better time to get Oregon St. players in your roster.

Fades

Kevin Samuel, F, TCU ($8,300 DK, $7,100 FD)

Samuel checks in as the eighth-highest priced player on tonight's slate, and it's a high price to pay for someone who has only averaged 24.5 minutes over his last two games. He has posted two games with over 15+ rebounds and thus has the high price tag, but those games were against weaker competition. He also only has a 14.9 percent usage rate, another low mark for this price. Samuel needs to have everything go right to put up a 40+ point fantasy night, and there's too much risk for a sub-20 fantasy point output.

Aaron Thompson, G, Butler ($7,300 DK, $6,000 FD)

Butler is playing just its second game of the season tonight and draws a Villanova team that plays at one of the bottom-10 tempos of any team in the NCAA. As a result, Butler may have a hard time reaching 60 points and that limits the upside Thompson will have at a second-tier price-tag. He's also been used primarily as a role player in his career, with less than 17 percent of the team's possessions in each of his three seasons with the Bulldogs.

Nate Roberts, F, Washington ($5,800 DK)

This is a tough spot to use Roberts, facing off against a defensive-minded Montana squad that keeps the pace slow. The Grizzlies also start three guys 6-8 or bigger, so there will be better spots to use Roberts than against a team that should be able to defend him pretty well in the post. He's only been averaging 20 minutes since the season opener as well.
