DFS College Basketball: Tuesday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Tuesday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Our first Tuesday of the college hoops season features a strong slate of games with several prominent teams and high-profile matchups. Plus, DraftKings is offering up a $25k top prize for its main slate contest -- the Tuesday Turnaround -- which tips off at 5:30 p.m. EST.

The highest-scoring game of the day figures to be Michigan State-Duke, so that's my starting point for filling out today's lineup. Here's the full list of implied totals for Tuesday:

Targets

1. DJ Steward, G, Duke ($7,200 DK, $4,400 FD)

Steward came off the bench in the first game of the season and still managed to score a game-high 24 points in 33 minutes of game action. He demonstrated a wide skill set, as he made 4-of-9 three point attempts while also securing nine rebounds. Assuming he plays a similar number of minutes in today's game, Steward should be an excellent pick and is almost a must-start in FanDuel given his cheap price tag. Jalen Johnson ($8,800 DK, $6,400 FD) is also an excellent option (especially in FanDuel) although he's a bit more expensive so he might not provide as much value.

2. David Johnson, G, Louisville ($6,700 DK, $5,300 FD)

Through three games into the season, Johnson is currently playing 31 minutes per game to go with the second-highest usage rate on the team. Add in the fact that KenPom is projecting Lousiville to score 75 points in today's game, and we have ourselves a solid fantasy prospect. Western Kentucky's defense isn't exactly great, (ranked 110th adjusted effieciency per KenPom) so Johnson could benefit from the matchup.

3. Jalen Wilson, F, Kansas ($5,600 DK, $6,000 FD)

Wilson came off the bench in his last game but still played 24 minutes while scoring 14 and securing nine rebounds. He has the second-highest usage rate on the team and his only limitation appears to be playing time. That being said, he's still averaging 23 minutes in two games and we're early in the season so it's reasonable to think he might see additional minutes if he continues playing well. Kansas has scored 90 points in both of its games this season so Wilson should see plenty of opportunities.

Bonus - DraftKings Exclusive

Georgetown Hoyas

The Hoyas are projected to win in a blowout, and they have two key seniors that will likely have a big part in the victory. I'd strongly suggest adding either Jahvon Blair ($8,300) or Jamorko Pickett ($6,900).

Fades

1. Taveion Hollingsworth, G, Western Kentucky ($7,400 DK, $7,800 FD)

Hollingsworth is listed as questionable heading into the game so that's never ideal. Even if he does play, the injury could affect his playing time and his price tag makes him a potential bust candidate. Western Kentucky faces a tough challenge with Louisville's defense, so I'm avoiding the Hilltoppers as a whole.

2. Isaac Likekele, G, Oklahoma St. ($7,900 DK, $6,700 FD)

Believe it or not, Marquette currently boasts the number one ranked defense in terms of effective field goal percentage. Time will tell if it's truly that good, but I'd rather avoid it for the time being. Regarding Likekele, his usage rate through the first two games makes me wonder if he'll live up to his price tag. As of right now, he's taking just nine percent of his team's shots when on the court.

3. Isaiah Jackson, F, Kentucky ($5,400 DK, $5,300 FD)

Jackson has seen inconsistent playing time so far this season, seemingly due to an ankle injury that happened at the end of the first game of the season. He came off the bench in the second game and appeared fine as he collected 14 rebounds and two blocks. It's hard to know how many minutes Jackson will see in today's game so I'd rather not take a chance. Also, Kansas currently has the sixth best defense in terms of adjusted efficiency so that doesn't help.
