The Guardians announced his death late Thursday but could not give further information until talking to his family. Melendez appeared in 73 games for Low-A Lynchburg last season hitting .246 with eight homers. "Andres is remembered by his teammates and friends as a positive, respectful, and thoughtful young man with a beautiful smile who had a profound impact on others. He will be greatly missed," the Guardians said in a statement.
