2019 Fantasy Outlook
Lavigne had the best statistical debut of any top-50 pick. A 6-foot-4, 220-pound first baseman from the Northeast, Lavigne received an over-slot $2 million bonus after getting selected with the No. 42 pick. He ranked second in the Pioneer League in wRC+ (160) and BB/K (1.13) and was the fifth-youngest qualified hitter. While he is clearly a good prospect, some context is required when evaluating him for dynasty leagues. Lavigne is a big boy with fringe-average speed that will tick down as he climbs the ladder, so his 12 steals (on 19 attempts) should not be considered part of the long-term package. Additionally, the Pioneer League is notoriously hitter-friendly and sometimes players who hit there never hit anywhere else. Lavigne showed an excellent all-fields approach, but his 53.5 GB% is a bit concerning. Despite his hyperbolic debut, he should still be considered a power-over-hit prospect who will need to rake at every stop, given his defensive limitations.
