2017 Fantasy Outlook
Basabe came over to the Diamondbacks in the deal that sent Brad Ziegler to the Red Sox. The young Venezuelan wasn't considered a top prospect in the Boston system, but his performance with Low-A Greenville (.310/.412/.467 line with four homers and 14 steals in 64 games) was starting to get some attention. Things didn't go as well with Low-A Kane County after the trade. In 45 games with Kane County, Basabe posted a .217/.339/.323 slash line and stole just three bases in nine attempts. Scouts like Basabe's speed, so he should be stealing bases at a higher rate. Basabe did just turn 20 in August, so there is plenty of room for growth, though Basabe might not have as high of a ceiling as his twin brother, Luis Alexander Basabe. Long term, Basabe projects as an average major league second baseman or possibly a useful utility player.
