Latest Fantasy Rumors
May resurface as starter
PBoston Red Sox
August 27, 2019
Shawaryn is being stretched out at Triple-A Pawtucket and could start games at the big-league level in September, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shawaryn struggled to an 8.53 ERA in eight appearances for Boston earlier this year but has thrived as a starter for the PawSox (3.46 ERA in 13 outings). The righty, who turns 25 on Sept. 17, averaged 92.2 mph on his four-seam fastball in his first major-league stint. He could make several starts if Boston decides to test his worth if/when the club falls out of playoff contention.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Shawaryn was drafted by the Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2016 draft. The Red Sox like their pitchers tall and Shawaryn fits that description, standing 6-foot-3 at 225 pounds. A highly regarded prospect out of the University of Maryland, Shawaryn saw his draft stock fall as he experienced a drop in fastball velocity, leading to mediocre results, during his junior year for the Terps. The velocity returned since joining the Red Sox, getting back up to 92-93 mph. He uses a slider and changeup, while working on adding a curveball. The right-hander brings a low three-quarters arm slot, which creates some deception for hitters.
