ANALYSIS
Plummer joined Cincinnati for spring training on a minor-league pact in early February but never made a serious run at a spot on the big club's Opening Day roster. Cincinnati apparently didn't envision Plummer having a regular role at Triple-A Louisville, either, so he'll now look to find work in a new organization. The 26-year-old reached the big leagues for the first time in his career last season with the Mets, slashing .138/.194/.379 across 31 plate appearances.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
St. Louis' first-rounder from the 2015 draft is probably a forgotten man in some dynasty leagues, to the point that he has either been dropped or his owner is contemplating not retaining him heading into the 2017 season. He did not play in a single game in 2016, as he needed surgery to have a piece of his hamate bone removed from his hand. It is frustrating that we still only have his 51-game run in the Appalachian League in 2015 to judge him by. When the Cardinals selected him with the 23rd overall pick two years ago and gave him $1.72 million more than Harrison Bader, it was because he had a potential plus-hit, plus-power combination with an excellent eye at the plate and above-average speed. None of that potential has changed, and after all of the graduations over the past two years, Plummer could reasonably be thought of as a top-200 prospect. He should spend some time in the Midwest League this year and is a solid breakout candidate.
Plummer’s greatest strength - an excellent eye at the plate - may also be seen as a weakness, depending on what the expectations are for him as a hitter. Playing primarily as a 19-year-old in the Gulf Coast League, the 23rd overall pick in last year’s draft posted a staggering 17.1 percent walk rate en route to a .379 OBP. On the surface, it would appear that he has an incredibly advanced approach for a prep pick getting his first taste of professional baseball. However, he also hit just .228 with one home run in 228 plate appearances. Chances are, the Cardinals did not take Plummer in the first round so that he could go up to the plate intent on walking. He has the potential to offer a plus hit tool and plus power with solid average speed, but in order to let the hit and power tools play, he will need to be less passive at the plate.
