Borenstein signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Wednesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old outfielder has yet to reach the big leagues. He's stalled out at Triple-A despite solid numbers at that level, as he's hit .260/.337/.476 there in parts of five seasons. A 29.8 percent strikeout rate at the highest level of the minors casts doubt on his ability to produce at the next level, however.

2014 Fantasy Outlook
The 2013 campaign marked a breakout season for Borenstein, as he posted a 1.034 OPS in his first season with High-A Inland Empire. A 23rd-round draft pick in 2011, the left fielder hit 28 home runs in his age-22 season, and while those gaudy numbers make him one to watch in 2014, his 18.9 percent strikeout rate last year is evidence that he still has work to do before being considered a star in the making. Borenstein will likely be given as much time as he needs to develop due to the perpetual logjam in the Angels' outfield, which makes it unlikely that he'll see significant time at the major league level in the near future.
