La Marre elected free agency last week, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
When injuries decimated the Yankees' outfield depth earlier in the summer, LaMarre was up with the big club for two separate stints. He appeared in nine games for New York, batting .190 over 24 plate appearances. The 32-year-old journeyman outfielder will presumably have to settle for a minor-league deal with the Yankees or another organization this winter.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2018
2016
2014
LaMarre spent the majority of the 2017 season with the A's after being traded from the Angels to Oakland in April. He's appeared in just 30 major-league games over his eight-year professional career, and failed to record a hit during eight plate appearances this past season. With the Twins, it's likely that he will start out the 2018 campaign in the minors while providing depth for the organization. He's showcased good wheels throughout his minor-league career, but doesn't provide enough impact with the bat to profile as an everyday player if he were to resurface in the majors.
A former second-round pick by the Reds in 2010, LaMarre has never been able to hit for power as a professional, dooming his ability to become a positive offensive contributor against upper-level pitching. He finally made it to the big leagues for a September trial in 2015 but was overmatched. He signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox this offseason, but faces long odds against making the big league club.
LaMarre's minor league numbers last year (or really any other year) weren't great, but he's in the right farm system to have a chance at making an impact down the road, and he came on strong over the second last year at Double-A Pensacola. He's a good defensive outfielder with the ability to draw a walk and steal the occasional base. Should Billy Hamilton falter, the Reds could call LaMarre up to serve as part of a platoon, given the lack of other decent alternatives on the Reds' 40-man roster.
