Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Wednesday brings a lot of day games across baseball, leaving us with only six games to choose from for the main evening slate on Yahoo. There are a few aces set to take the mound, so finding lineups worth stacking might be more difficult than usual. Before you set your lineup, consider the following players who are in favorable spots to shine.

Pitching Overview

The chalk starting pitcher figures to be Clayton Kershaw ($55) against the Marlins. When these two teams faced off less than a month ago, Kershaw dominated with 10 strikeouts over six shutout innings. That shouldn't really come as a surprise considering the Marlins are tied for the fewest runs scored in baseball. This game being played at pitcher-friendly Marlins Park also plays to Kershaw's advantage, so his upside is off the charts.

Cole Hamels ($42) had a rough go of it in his last start, allowing five runs (four earned) over three innings against the Reds. Even with that poor outing, he still has a 3.09 ERA and a 3.59 FIP for the season. One of the big keys to his success is the fact that he's only allowed 0.8 HR/9. While the Phillies aren't the easiest of opponents, Hamels still checks in as a viable mid-tier option on a slate with limited options.

Keying in on favorable matchups brings us to Marco Gonzales ($40) against the Tigers. When he faced them a little over two weeks ago, he was outstanding by allowing one run and recording eight strikeouts over seven innings. The Tigers are the team that is tied with the Marlins for the fewest runs scored, making Gonzales extremely appealing for this rematch.

Key Values/Chalk

In a surprising turn of events, Edwin Jackson actually pitched well in his first start since joining the Tigers. He didn't face the toughest of foes in the Royals, but he still allowed only one run across 6.1 innings. With that being said, he has an 8.24 FIP for the season, so expect the Mariners to be one of the chalk stacks of the night. Daniel Vogelbach ($16) and Domingo Santana ($13) bring plenty of power to the table while J.P. Crawford ($12) carries some upside at shortstop with his .342 wOBA against right-handed pitchers.

Mike Trout ($27) and the Angels also figure to be popular with a matchup against Chris Archer on tap. He's been a major disappointment after being acquired from the Rays last year, especially with how well Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow (forearm) have performed. Archer's 1.41 WHIP this season would be the highest mark of his career, which has been one of the main reasons why he has a 5.23 ERA and a 5.28 FIP.

Stacks

Dodgers vs. Elieser Hernandez (Marlins)

Cody Bellinger (OF - $20), Max Muncy (2B - $19), Will Smith (C - $22)

Hernandez pitched poorly the last time he appeared against the Dodgers, allowing four runs while recording only two outs in a relief appearance. He's since been moved into the starting rotation, allowing six runs over 13 innings in three starts. With the Dodgers carrying one of the most potent lineups in baseball, they figure to be a popular choice on a night with so few options. Bellinger and Muncy have been excellent sources of power while Smith has been no slouch himself with a staggering .493 ISO across his first 23 games in the majors.

Pirates vs. Dillon Peters (Angels)

Josh Bell (1B - $14), Bryan Reynolds (OF - $20), Kevin Newman (SS - $9)

Peters is coming off of a couple of tough matchups against the Indians and Red Sox. He held his own, allowing six runs over 13.2 innings. His main area of concern has been the long ball since he's allowed 2.0 HR/9 through 31.1 innings. That could be his downfall against Bell, who has gone deep four times in his last three games. Reynolds has provided a tremendous boost for their outfield, recording a .401 wOBA during his first season in the majors.

Royals vs. Dakota Hudson (Cardinals)

Hunter Dozier (3B - $23), Jorge Soler (OF - $27), Alex Gordon (OF - $11)

Hudson's 4.01 ERA isn't terrible, but his FIP stands at 5.33 and he has a bloated 1.57 WHIP, so the Royals could be in line for a productive evening. Soler carries a ton of power upside into this stack with his .295 ISO while Dozier has a career-high 137 wRC+. Hudson has allowed a .388 wOBA against left-handed hitters, leaving Gordon as one of the more appealing cheaper options at any position.
