Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Tuesday brings a full 15-game evening slate on Yahoo, leaving us with a bevy of options to choose from. There are a lot of lineups in positions to thrive, so selecting the right starting pitcher could be key. Let's dive into the matchups and highlight the best ones that stand out.

Pitching Overview

The Dodgers deep starting rotation is one of the main reasons why they are running away with the NL West crown. Walker Buehler ($53) has been one of the best of the bunch, posting a 3.46 ERA that could be even better when you consider his 2.84 FIP. He only has a 0.99 WHIP to go along with a 27.4 percent strikeout rate, making him an extremely appealing option whenever he takes the mound. The Phillies are no push over, but their 91 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers does place them in the bottom-half of baseball.

Zach Plesac had ($48) a rough last two outings heading into the break, allowing 10 runs over 6.1 innings to the Orioles and Royals. He had been pitching well up to that point, so he'll be looking to get things back on track against the lackluster Tigers lineup. The last time he faced them, he only allowed one run across seven innings. Although he doesn't come at much of a discount, he's worth a look in tournament play.

The Marlins have surprisingly turned into a competitive team, although most of their improved play can be attributed to their starting rotation. Jordan Yamamoto ($44) has provided a huge lift since being recalled from the minors, recording a 1.24 ERA and a 2.80 FIP. He hasn't allowed a home run over his first 29 innings while posting a 27 percent strikeout rate, leaving him with plenty of upside at home against a Padres team that has struck out the fourth-most times (901).

Key Values/Chalk

The Giants continue their series against the Rockies at Coors Field with a matchup against Peter Lambert, who has an unsightly 6.67 ERA and 6.72 FIP through six starts. This could be an excellent opportunity to deploy Brandon Belt ($16), who has a .352 wOBA against right-handed pitchers. Alex Dickerson ($21) has a .402 wOBA since being recalled from the minors, making him another lefty bat to target.

Not only are the Dodgers shutting teams down with their stellar staff, but their offense continues to score in bunches. They're set up with another chance to thrive against Vince Velasquez, who has once again struggled with a 5.36 FIP and a 1.40 WHIP. A.J. Pollock ($15) has two home runs and six hits across three games since being activated from the IL and he's reasonably priced. The Dodgers also have a bevy of lefties that could do damage here, including Cody Bellinger ($24) and Max Muncy ($20).

The good news for Dario Agrazal is that through his first three starts in the majors, he only allowed six runs (five earned) over 16 innings. However, he posted just seven total strikeouts and was a bit lucky when you consider his 6.08 FIP. He had a 4.25 ERA and a 19.8 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A, so he's not exactly an overpowering force. This could be the right time to deploy Paul Goldschmidt ($12), who has started to regain his power stroke by hitting three home runs over his last seven games.

Stacks

Rockies vs. Drew Pomeranz (Giants)

Nolan Arenado (3B - $20), Trevor Story (SS - $25), Ian Desmond (OF - $19)

Pomeranz at Coors Field could be a disaster. He's already having a terrible season with his 6.42 ERA and 1.77 WHIP. Arenado and Story both have excellent numbers at home and against lefties, leaving them with tremendous upside. Desmond is also appealing at a lesser price based on his 144 wRC+ against lefties.

Nationals vs. Asher Wojciechowski (Orioles)

Juan Soto (OF - $26), Anthony Rendon (3B - $22), Adam Eaton (OF - $17)

Injuries and the trade of Andrew Cashner have left an already poor Orioles rotation in shambles. They'll be forced to turn to Wojciechowski, who has a 5.83 FIP across 15 starts at Triple-A this season. Soto is the top option for a Nationals stack with his .398 wOBA against right-handed pitchers. Eaton is a cheaper option who is starting to heat up after hitting 17-for-53 (.321) over his last 13 games. Not much needs to be said about Rendon, who is mashing this season with his .299 ISO.

Red Sox vs. Jacob Waguespack (Blue Jays)

Rafael Devers (3B - $27), Xander Bogaerts (SS - $24), Christian Vazquez (C - $20)

Speaking of rotations in disarray, the Blue Jays are running out of healthy arms themselves. Waguespack has made a couple of relief appearances this season, but he'll be forced to start this matchup against the potent Red Sox. He didn't do much to earn the start based on his Triple-A numbers since he had a 5.30 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. Rafael Devers is red-hot, hitting 42-for-103 (.408) with eight home runs and 10 doubles over his last 25 games. Boagerts is right behind him after hitting 33-for-97 (.340) with seven home runs and 10 doubles over that same stretch. Vazquez is having a breakout offensive campaign of his own with his .352 wOBA.
