Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

There are two routes to take in Monday night's slate with the first being to spend everything on Jacob deGrom ($62). In the case he struggles against a stocked Dodgers lineup, I went with cheaper pitchers that are favored, which allows for a balanced lineup and some bigger bats.

PITCHER

Zack Godley, ARI vs. SD ($40): Godley rebounded last start and has a chance to continue that in another meeting with the Padres. He struggled against them a few weeks ago, but hit 25 fantasy points in his other two outings earlier in the year. San Diego remains one of the worst in the league with a 25.4 K% and .292 wOBA against righties since the All-Star break.

Alex Wood, LAD vs. NYM ($37): As a favorite in the game with the lowest over/under, Wood makes slightly more sense than the more expensive Jacob deGrom. Wood's upside isn't the best, but he's reached 13.7 fantasy points in 12 of his last 13 outings and often gets up to 20. Since the break, the Mets are subpar against southpaws with a .136 ISO and .294 wOBA.

CATCHER

Mike Zunino, SEA vs. BAL ($10): There aren't many places to go at catcher so gambling on Zunino in hopes of a home run isn't a bad route. He's not consistent, but has power with a career .180 ISO against lefty arms. Josh Rogers is making another start for the Orioles and he didn't do much in his MLB debut, allowing seven hits and three runs in five innings against the Blue Jays.

FIRST BASE

Ji-Man Choi, TB at TOR ($14): Choi is only used against righties and he's quietly been great against them with 17 extra-base hits (5 HR) and a .380 BABIP in 134 plate appearances. Marcus Stroman is returning from the 10-day DL with an undesirable 5.27 ERA and .322 wOBA allowed to lefties.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Villar, BAL at SEA ($16): Villar doesn't provide much power against righties, but he'll get on base against them with a .397 OBP in his last 79 plate appearances. That'll work against Erasmo Ramirez, who was blasted for seven runs by the Padres last time out and allowed a .346 wOBA to lefty bats last season.

THIRD BASE

Jurickson Profar, TEX vs. LAA ($18): Profar's been consistent since May against all pitchers and has been better of late with a .396 wOBA against righties since the break, which goes into a .190 ISO for the season. Matt Shoemaker is making his return from a forearm injury with his only start coming in March. His numbers last year weren't great with a 1.54 HR/9 and .333 wOBA allowed to lefty bats.

SHORTSTOP

Tim Beckham, BAL at SEA ($13): Six of Beckham's 10 homers have come in the last month and a .357 OBP against righties since the All-Star break is much better than any other time in the season. Ramirez has a few good starts, yet the potential to get shelled is prevalent with at least five runs allowed in three of his six starts shown in a 6.28 ERA.

OUTFIELD

Kole Calhoun, LAA at TEX ($22): No matter who is on the mound, Calhoun has a favorable matchup. Since the break, he has a .340 wOBA against lefties (Jeffrey Springs) and .322 ISO against righties (Ariel Jurado). The hope is that Calhoun will face Jurado a couple times after he comes in for the opener, Springs. Jurado had little success as a starter and a 2.03 HR/9 allowed to lefties will benefit Calhoun.

Mitch Haniger, SEA vs. BAL ($21): Haniger's power is somewhat lacking against southpaws, but he'll get on base with a .385 BABIP and .354 wOBA. At a minimum, he'll make value against rookie Josh Rogers in his second MLB start after giving up seven hits in his debut, all to righty bats.

Trey Mancini, BAL at SEA ($17): Mancini is another Oriole that's turned it on with a .380 wOBA in his last 121 plate appearances against righties to go with 17 home runs and a .197 ISO for the year. Ramirez has never held great numbers in MLB, most recently sporting a 4.40 xFIP against righty hitters in 2017 and he's been worse than that in 2018.
