Closer Watch

Cincinnati Reds - Jonathan Broxton blew his first save of the season Friday, but his time in the closer's role was seemingly up anyway, as manager Bryan Price said Aroldis Chapman (head) will likely come off the DL on Saturday. Price did say, however, that he wants to see Chapman throw before making any decisions, after the left-hander struggled to the tune of eight earned runs in just one inning of work for Triple-A Louisville. Despite the poor numbers, Chapman's velocity was reportedly right up where it typically is (97-101 mph), and it would be a surprise if he didn't return to ninth-inning duties immediately upon his activation. That said, those rostering Broxton may want to see how Chapman fares in his first few appearances before cutting bait.

Recommended Pickup
Wilmer Flores, SS, NYM - With Ruben Tejada failing to provide any offense spark at the shortstop position, the Mets decided to bring up the 22-year-old Flores from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. He was in the lineup for the series opener against the Phillies and poked a single to left field in his second at-bat. While Flores is a less-than-stellar defender, he's compiled a .318/.357/.524 batting line in 589 plate appearances at the Triple-A level and seems like the favorite for playing time moving forward, considering the Mets ranked 23rd in runs scored (131) coming into Friday. Quality middle infielders can be hard to come by, and though Flores won't help you much in the stolen base department, he has some pop and should not be overlooked.
